Manager of the Week: Jordan

Jordan Conn, with only 5 years of commercial baking experience, has taken over our large retail program with Lipari, and has hopes of selling to many more grocery chains in the near future. Jordan is a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and has worked for James Beard Award Winner, Chef Dan Budd.
Jordan started as a home baker who wanted to learn more about the science behind the craft. Learning the science of baking also made her realize the emotion and art that can be expressed through the details of decorating. Outside of the kitchen, Jordan has a degree from Eastern Michigan University in Education. She taught Social Studies for 5 years at community colleges in northern Virginia and the Washington DC Metro area. She enjoys wine and microbrew tastings, along with savory cooking at home and spending time with her family, especially her nephews.

Meet our Chief Cake Officer: Melissa

Melissa Kukulka is a 30 year old cake decorator/ business-woman from Livonia, MI. She has over 14 years of experience that started in a local Polish bakery. Melissa was thrown into cake decorating one day and fell in love, she’s completely self-taught. After pursuing a certification in advertising and in interior design, Melissa went back to her first love, art, but in the form of cake decorating.
Besides art in the kitchen, Melissa enjoys drawing, painting, and making jewelry. She continues drawing tattoos, but has left the needles to the pros. In between years of decorating in local bakeries and starting her own decorating company, Melissa married her childhood sweetheart, whom recently came home from 6 years of active duty in the Air Force.
Melissa has said that sculpting is her favorite thing to do with cakes, but enjoys learning and perfecting all areas of cake decorating. Recently Melissa has come back to Just Baked as the “Chief Cake Officer” of a quarter of a million dollar custom cake business.
